The work for the UNO project as seen by Léo

Léo Coulongeat is a self-taught French photographer with a passion for deserts, volcanoes, remote places,
and much more. In October 2024, Léo joined a group of INGV researchers and climbed Mount Stromboli
to document an ongoing campaign monitoring explosive activity. This type of survey has often been
conducted as part of the UNO project. Léo’s photos capture the various stages of this work. First, they
portray the researchers ascending to high-altitude stations amidst breathtaking landscapes. Then, they
showcase the meticulous deployment of numerous instruments used for the surveys. Finally, they
highlight the volcano’s activity.
Thank you, Léo, for sharing your shots with us! (photo credits Léo Coulongeat). Link to the photo gallery
