On 7th March 2023, the source of carbon dioxide (CO2) investigations in the urban and extra-urban area of Rome, planned by the WP3 of the AMUSED project, began.
A laser spectrometer in the mid-infrared frequency capable of measuring the concentration of CO2 and at the same time the ratios of the isotopes 13C/12C and 18O/16O will be used.
In fact, the possible sources of CO2 in the metropolitan area of Rome are the natural biological, the natural volcanic/geothermal and anthropic, which have different isotopic ratios.
The measurements will be performed along routes of tens of km through the city and along extra-urban roads, taking one measurement per second of the three parameters.
Subsequently, the instrument will be installed in various points of the city (at least ten days of measurement at a fixed point) in order to study the daily variations of carbon dioxide in the air linked to natural and anthropic origin.
