pannello gabi

The inauguration of an exhibition panel on the main activities of the AMUSED project and the geological history of the Castiglione paleolake was held in early 2024. The panel, made with the help of the INGV Graphics and Imaging Laboratory, was installed on the edge of the crater bordering the paleolake, within the archaeological area of Gabii, on the ancient Via Prenestina, about 20 kilometers east of Rome.

The ancient city of Gabii, the earliest traces of which date back to the 9th century B.C., was one of the most important political and cultural centers of Latium in protohistoric times. The Castiglione Valley also contains evidence of the ancient quarry of Lapis Gabinus, a building stone also known by the generic name of Peperino and widely exploited by the Romans from the 1st century B.C. onward.

The opening was attended by INGV researchers along with Rocco Bochicchio and Chiara Andreotti of the Special Superintendence of Rome, who are responsible for the archaeological site.
