The Geological Survey of Croatia (HGI) is the largest national institute for geosciences and geological engineering. Founded in 1909, it provides expertise in geological research, data collection, and geoscientific innovation. HGI conducts regional mapping, maintains databases, and produces thematic maps (hydrogeological, engineering-geological, geochemical, and geohazard) to support sustainable land use and resource management while providing the scientific foundation for national/regional projects. HGI also investigates natural hazards (earthquakes, landslides, floods, erosion) to inform risk assessment and civil protection measures. HGI strengthens the integration of geoscience within the European research community, delivering valuable analyses to authorities, stakeholders, and the public.
