On 8th February 2022 Prof. Laura Sadori and the student J. Da Valle from the Univesità di Roma La Sapienza started the sampling of Castiglione cores for the palynological analyses.
In detail, the sampling is carried out by taking samples every 5cm in the section corresponding to the Marine Isotope sub-stage MIS5e. The sub-stage MIS 5e, called the Eemian or Ipswichian, covers the last major interglacial period before the Holocene, 120,000 years ago.
These analyses aim to reconstruct the changes in the vegetation due to the climatic fluctuations occurring during this particular climatic phase.
