Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV)

INGV logo colore3
The Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) is the Italian leading public research institution dedicated to the study of
geophysical, volcanological and environmental phenomena.

The main objective is to monitor geophysical phenomena in both the fluid and solid components of our planet. The INGV is responsible for
monitoring seismicity and the activity of Italian volcanoes in real time through technologically advanced instrumentation networks,
distributed across the country or concentrated around active volcanoes.

INGV's research encompasses a wide range of geoscience disciplines, focusing on seismology, volcanology, and environmental
studies. The institute is actively involved in national and international projects aimed at advancing scientific knowledge and developing
innovative technologies for hazard assessment and risk reduction. Collaborations with universities, research organizations, and civil
protection agencies enhance INGV's capacity to respond effectively to geophysical emergencies and to contribute to the safety and
well-being of society.

In addition to its research and monitoring activities, INGV is committed to public outreach and education. The institute organizes exhibitions,
publishes educational materials, and maintains an active online presence to disseminate scientific information and promote awareness of
geophysical hazards among the general public.

BIRA Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy

GET IT BIRA
The Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB) is a Belgian federal scientific research institute.
Its main tasks are research and public service in space aeronomy, which is the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere of the
Earth and other planets, and of outer space.

BIRA-IASB studies:

  • the atmospheres of solar system bodies
  • the impact of the Sun, nature and mankind on atmospheric changes

It is the only Centre of Knowledge in Belgium that has the required competences to elaborate all elements of a space mission to
perform a complete study of an aeronomic problem:

→ the formulation of research objectives

→ the consequent instrument and space mission design

→ the derivation of satellite data products, their validation and geophysical exploitation, including modeling

and service development (e.g. SACS – Support to Aviation Control Service; http://sacs.aeronomie.be)

All our activities have one goal in common: the broadening of our knowledge of the atmospheres of celestial bodies. Improved
knowledge is indispensable to better inform the citizen and policymakers and to find answers to the societal challenges

Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC)

GET IT CSIC
The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public research organisation of Spain devoted to scientific and

technical research and one of most renowned institutions in the European Research Area.

The Geosciences Barcelona - CSIC (GEO3BCN; https://www.geo3bcn.csic.es/) is a reference institute of Earth Sciences in Spain
whose main objective is to provide the best possible response to the requirements of our society with regard to Geosciences. This
international research centre brings together high-profile research specialists from different disciplines into a singular
multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research team. GEO3BCN proposes a holistic approach, from micro-scale to planetary scale,
to characterise planet Earth, encompassing three fundamental research challenges: Global geodynamics, Georisks and global

change, and Geological resources. Currently, GEO3BCN-CSIC has several active national and international projects related to
different disciplines, including environmental change and modelling, sustainable exploration for European Critical Raw Materials
and the development of digital twins for geophysical extremes.

Terradue

GET IT TerradueTerradue is a leading provider of Earth sciences applications and services, founded in Italy in 2006 by researchers from the European Space Agency (ESA). As the first incubatee of ESA's Business Incubation Centre in Lazio, Terradue has grown into a team of 19 professionals from six nationalities, headquartered in Rome at The Hub in Termini. The company specialises in supporting application builders in the Earth sciences domain by integrating algorithms provided by its partners and developing them into operational workflows. This enables the production of Analysis Ready Data and Added Value Products, turning raw satellite data into actionable insights.

Terradue has established itself as a pioneer in deploying and operating Earth Observation (EO) data processing applications across multiple cloud infrastructures, ensuring its partners and clients avoid cloud vendor lock-in. Among these platforms is the Geohazards
Exploitation Platform (GEP) that Terradue developed and operates as a cloud-based processing platform offering over 25 services for monitoring terrain motion and critical infrastructures in cooperation with international research institutes and private companies.
GEP provides data screening, event response, and area monitoring capabilities, leveraging systematic and event-triggered services. With over 3,200 registered users, including around 350 active content creators, GEP operates on a revenue-sharing model that supports both sponsored and direct purchase revenues.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh)

AUTH nuovo logo edited EN

"The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), founded in 1925, is the largest public university in Greece. Its School of Geology, part of the Faculty of Sciences, covers a broad range of Earth science disciplines, including structural and applied geology, geophysics and seismology, hydrogeology, engineering and environmental geology, physical geography, meteorology and climatology, geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology.

The Earth Observation & Geospatial Applications Lab (EO.Lab) is an academic unit of AUTh, based in the Department of Physical and Environmental Geography of the School of Geology. It is dedicated to Earth Observation and geospatial education, research, applications and services. The Lab was founded in 2003 and has since grown to reflect developments in the field. It is led by experienced academic staff with an international profile and a team of young scientists, engineers and educators. The Lab owns or has guaranteed access to a wide range of equipment and processing capabilities. These include image processing and GIS software, virtual machines and cloud processing infrastructure, GNSS receivers from hand-held to geodetic grade, LiDAR, UAVs, sonars, boats and spectrometers.
EO.Lab’s research and applications cover natural resources mapping and monitoring, geohazards, inland water bodies, and coastal and environmental change. A particular strength is satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar interferometry (InSAR) for monitoring ground deformation. The Lab takes part in national and international projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and EU framework programmes, as well as commercial contracts. Beyond research and services, EO.Lab is strongly committed to education, training, capacity building and outreach."

British Geological Survey (BGS)

British Geological Survey

British Geological Survey (BGS) is Britain's national geological survey and has been in existence since 1835. BGS is a non-departmental public body, part of UK Research and Innovation and is a world-leading independent research organisation providing objective, expert environmental data and knowledge needed for reducing the impact of climate change and support economic growth.

BGS undertakes interdisciplinary research across the natural and built environment, combining expertise in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrogeology, geomorphology, remote sensing, Earth observation, data science and artificial intelligence. Through its extensive national and international research portfolio, BGS develops innovative approaches for environmental monitoring, natural hazard assessment, climate resilience, sustainable resource management and the delivery of actionable evidence for policy and decision making.

BGS work for this project will be coordinated by the BGS Geodesy & Remote Sensing team which has >70 years of expertise in processing and developing remote sensing datasets to understand the impact of climate change on our society.
