FURTHER project will study the southern Apennines (Italy) with a special focus on the Sannio-Matese and Pollino mountain ranges and the Mefite d’Ansanto degassing area. Objectives of the Project are:
- Multiscale monitoring of seismicity, gas emissions and deformation
- Passive seismic experiments to probe the underground of Mefite d'Ansanto emission site and surrounding areas
- Creation of a high-resolution earthquake catalog for the Southern Apennines
- Determination of the crustal thickness and velocity, VP/VS variations and local scale structural features
- Characterization of fault-zones, detection of fluid reservoirs and precursory changes, deciphering physical and hydraulic properties of the crust
- Hydrogeological data collection and continuous time series of CO2 measurements
- Analysis of the historical seismicity to investigate of the interaction between earthquakes and hydrological processes
- Correlation of the available and new 3D GNSS time series with hydrogeological data for shallow or deep-seated fluids
- Analysis of LAIC by satellite, atmospheric and seismic data to recognize precursory signals, if any, of large earthquakes
