If we look at the geographic map, the Italian peninsula seems to hang a little askew under Europe like a sock hanging by a thread. It hangs over the sea. The border between Italy and the sea is therefore very long, like a thin blue line. And “Linea Blu” (blue line) is precisely the evocative name of the TV show hosted by Donatella Bianchi.
Every Saturday, in the hot season, from 2pm on RAI 1, Donatella illustrates one of the many faces of the sea surrounding Italy. The presenter always chooses a "character" deeply linked to that corner of the sea and the surrounding coasts, and she lets that person introduce the scenario.
Last August 5th, “Linea Blu” covered Stromboli, and the UNO project was at the center of the episode. Donatella Bianchi interviewed Piergiorgio Scarlato (coordinator of the UNO Project) on board a dinghy moored offshore the volcano. The TV report admirably showed the eruptive activity of the volcano thanks to the outstanding videos captured by Tullio & Ric's drones (here link to the presentation of "our" drone operators) as part of the activity of the UNO project. The observation and research activities developed within the project allowed a significant step forward in quantifying the explosive activity of the volcano. This progress has been favored by the collaboration between INGV researchers working for UNO and researchers from other Italian and foreign institutions and universities participating in the UNO project.
